June is Member Appreciation Month at the Fort Worth Zoo. They open at 9 for members only, and have several special keeper talks and exhibits during that time. We're all about that! And Aunt Jodi and Uncle Robert got to come with us today, too!
One of today's special things was a Komodo Dragon feeding. Sounds like a must-see for my three boy-ish boys, don't you think? Well, everyone else thought so, too. Even though it was members only, it was very crowded outside that dragon's cage. Conner had his little Fisher Price camera with him and made his way up to the very front. (He has begun his own blog for the summer - he's taken it upon himself to learn something new everyday and write about it. Today's task was to learn something new about Komodo Dragons, and of course he had to have a picture!)
Joey was sitting on Uncle Robert's shoulders, and I was holding Micah up. All the kids were able to see...until Micah got tired of me holding him up and wanted down...just as the zoo keeper threw a whole rabbit at the dragon, and it was gone in about three chomps. Micah missed it.
It was devastating. Especially when everyone else was talking about how cool it was. But then best-big-brother-ever Conner said, "Well you can watch the movie I made of it if you want." What?! I knew that little camera would take video, but I certainly hadn't thought about using that here. But Conner did! And he got the whole thing! And Micah was able to see it, and everything was once again right in our worlds!
If you'd like to see Conner's video, you can go to his blog here.
And in other news...What a great day at the zoo!!
