We are moving! Bret has officially accepted the job as preaching minister here. It looks like after months and months of endless job searches and thinking we were only going to be here for a year, we are going to stay put where we are. So, the first item of business was to find a new house.
For those of you who don't know, we moved here 8 months after Hurricane Katrina. Bret had accepted a temporary, one-year position as the Outreach Minister at our church, planning to help minister to the spiritual needs of people whom the church has helped physically following the storm. As you can imagine, housing was extremely difficult to find, especially rental property! Bret ended up moving here in April without the boys and I. Six weeks of living in different states later, he called and said that he had found a house, and we could come down and join him. He warned me, however, that this house was not a house we would have ever chosen if we had any options on the table. It was in pretty bad shape, but it was a house that we could all live in together, and hey, it was only for a year, right?
Well, like I said, as this exhausting year of endless job searches has ended with us staying put, we have decided that we are also exhausted of hot water heaters that don't work, kitchen cabinets falling off the walls, broken promises from the landlord, an unreliable and extremely inefficient (therefore expensive to run) air conditioner, and more. It is time to move!
We found this house the first day that we started looking, and signed the contract two days later. We love it! Conner's favorite amenity is the 20 doors in the house. (Due to a very sad lack of closet/pantry space, the house we are in now has only 10...4 of which do not work properly, and we therefore do not really use. Twenty perfectly working doors is very exciting!) We move on June 1st, and are so excited!
